About

Dr Javed Akhtar is the Clincal lead for Cardiology for Barking, Havering and Redbrdige NHS Trust (Queen's Hospital, Romford & King George's Hospital, Goodmayes) which covers approximately a million patient population in the east of London and Essex. He has been a consultant for 30 years, with UK and international training and international experience, he offers private cardiology tests and treatment in a variety of private hospitals in London and Essex. 

He established the Permanent Pacemaker Implantation service at Queen’s Hospital, Romford and implants over 150 pacemakers every year. He has set up, established and supervises 'The heart failure service' at Queen’s Hospital. He has also established the community heart failure service in the Havering Care Commissioning group (CCG).

Dr Javed Akhtar is a senior cardiologist with extensive experience in all the major fields of cardiology including intervention. He takes pride in teaching and has been awarded “The best teacher of the year” for three consecutive years. He runs the cardiology training programme at Queen’s Hospital and conducts regular training for specialist registrars, junior doctors, GPs, cardiac physiologists and technicians.

Dr Akhtar has designed many local protocols which are now the gold standard management guide in our NHS Trust for treatment of the following conditions: Atrial fibrillation, Acute heart failure, Syncope (collapse), and Evidence based drugs for heart failure.

He is very active with The British Heart Foundation campaign to create awareness among the Asian communities for risk factors of coronary artery disease and how to prevent them, and is a frequent TV & Radio expert guest participating in interviews for various Asian TV channels as well as the BBC international service. 

Some of the condition's Dr Akhtar is an expert in treating are: chest pain; angina; palpitations; breathlessness; dizziness and fainting episodes; heart failure; investigation of heart murmurs; heart valve disease; high cholesterol; cardiomyopathy; investigation of patients with transient ischaemic attack (TIA) for the heart defect, patent foramen ovale (PFO); permanent pacemaker implantation; trans-oesophageal echocardiography (TOE).
